I let an app decide my outfits.

First question, have any of you seen Clueless? If the answer is no, why and then have you at LEAST seen the music video for Fancy? If you've seen either, then you'll know of the computer that creates a dream outfit.

Back in those days, it was a mere fictional fantasy, however we are in 2018. If the tech nerds have taught us anything, it's that you can do anything via an app in 2018. Want a night of snuggles, go on Tinder and find somebody in a swipe. Want a night away from the kitchen, log on to Deliveroo and they'll deliver your food to your door. But what about clothing? Well, this is where I come in.

I used an app called Your Closet. An app that allows you to track your clothing and outfits on your phone. In addition, it allows you to select certain elements to create a whole outfit in a couple of taps. When I saw Safiya Nygaard  try this (she used Pureple an example exclusive to the app store), I was a little bit curious and thus this experiment.

I inputted about 60-80% of my clothing and it took me around about 90 minutes-2 hours to log everything. Granted, I was sorting my own wardrobe out at this afternoon so I was killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Logging the items was surprisingly simple. All you had to do was take a photo, cut out the background and then add the item to the appropriate category. Then to create an outfit, you tap what categories you want to use and then the app generates an outfit.

So what actually happens when you give the power to AI?

Thursday 27th September:

Categories selected: T-Shirts, all bottoms except shorts, flat shoes, all outerwear, all bags, all headbands.

Result:

Headband: Primark.
Cardigan: Peacocks.
T-Shirt: Tee Turtle
Jeans: Primark
Shoes: Primark and can be seen on me here.

My thoughts:
I must admit, I hadn't worn this particular t-shirt for absolutely ages so when it came up today, I was very happy. I also hadn't worn a cardigan since maybe March and Britain is starting to get a lot colder now so the extra layers was highly appreciated. The jeans were very easy to put on/take off (I'm thinking that maybe the program knew that I was going shopping for interview clothes this afternoon) and I love my mustard flats. I was a little bit confused about the headband when it first came up but now seeing it with the t-shirt, it gives a little bit of a modern princess vibe.

Would I wear this outfit again?
Yes. I would quite happily wear this again as a fun casual look.

Friday 28th September:

Categories chosen: All bottoms except shorts, all tops, flat shoes, all accessories and all outerwear.

Result:
Scarf: Peacocks.
Jeans: Primark
T-Shirt: Disney.
Shoes: Primark
Cardigan: Peacocks

My Thoughts:
The yellow shoes are BACK. Why? I don't know because I personally think some of the other shoes I logged work with this outfit better. Also I noticed the same pair of jeans and cardigan which given the variety of clothes I logged, disappointed me. I then discovered that you can save outfits to a calendar, so in theory I should have a better variety of elements tomorrow not that I logged the past two outfits.

Would I wear this outfit again?
Maybe, but I'd probably wear a different pair of shoes with this look.

Final Thoughts?

Overall, whilst the app was easy to use, I did find it often repeated similar items despite me logging my outfits into my calendar. That being said, the app is free to download and can be very good if you have 0 idea what to wear.

Sorry for the delay in entries folks, I've been preparing for an interview during the last week. Hopefully we will back in business soon. Besides, my October Birchbox is coming and you know what that means?

Until next time, remember that you are beautiful.

Kelly
