Krispy Kreme Iced with Sprinkles Nail Set

I am a sucker for 3 things. These are:
  1. Cute Beauty Products.
  2. Food
  3. Well advertised products.
So imagine when it was announced on social media that Krispy Kreme (the guys who make AMAZING donuts) have now released a nail kit, I was excited. Then I was confused, what did people who made pretty good donuts, know about beauty products? Was this range all just a ploy in order to make us mere mortals pay more money? Well, this is why I decided to write this review because if it's rubbish, I don't you lot to waste your money when you could be spending it on something that Krispy Kreme are actually good at.

First impressions, I was very impressed. The kit is current £4.99 and features 4 nail varnishes, 'sprinkles' nail decorations and a donut shaped nail file. These are all in a Krispy Kreme branded box and as you can see below, is very adorable.

First look at the kit.

Of course, cute boxes mean jack if the products don't work. So can Krispy Kreme do cosmetic? Well...

Firstly the nail varnish stops being Krispy Kreme as soon as you take it out of the bottle. Now, maybe I was expecting too much and stop me if this is petty, but I was expecting the varnish to smell of donuts. Ok, here me out. When you think Krispy Kreme, you think donuts, so you would assume (or at least I do), that the cosmetics would smell of donuts to help with the branding. This varnish doesn't smell of donuts, it smells of plain old nail varnish. It smells of varnish wet and it doesn't smell at all at dry.

Last night, I actually made my first attempt to paint my nails with the 'original glazed' colour. Now, let me tell 'original glazed' is white. When I say white, I mean Snow White would stand next to it and people would say she has a suntan white. So bare in mind, that these colours are fair more white/bright than your box standard French/American manicure.

Another thing to bare in mind is that the 2 coats they suggest 'for a brighter colour' isn't an option as suggested on the label, but an necessity. Trust me, if you only do one coat, you are seeing very little varnish on your nails boo.

My hand with two coats. Honestly, I would probably suggest 3 if you want to wear the varnish longer than one night.

Unfortunately, I noticed that the varnish wasn't the best lasting. I've worn the polish for less than 24 hours and I'm already starting to see chip damage which was a really big shame. As for the 'sprinkles' there's nothing in the box to help you apply them, which means you're lobbing them on your nails and hoping for the best. Not good, Krispy Kreme. Not good.

Gotta love that chip polish less than 24 hours after application.

For all of it's flaws, however, Krispy Kreme's nails do have some pluses. Firstly, as discussed earlier, it is presented beautifully. Also the donut nail file actually has some relevance to the brand (in fact, thinking about it, why on earth wasn't there a chocolate shade to go with the nail file) and does the job. Also you have to remember your getting 4 nail varnishes, a nail file and decoration for £4.99, that's not actually a bad deal.

So final thoughts. Would I be in a rush to buy this again, probably not due to the issues discussed earlier. That being said, for a branded product, it does offer a good quantity of product. I think, this is the best example of the old saying 'buy cheap, buy twice'.

Final Score: 5/10.

Next time folks, we're going back in the Birchbox. What for, well, that will be telling. Until next time, remember you are beautiful.

Kelly.
