Birchbox August review: Rituals Happy Budda shower gel.
I have a little place in my heart for bath and shower things. It was the likes of Lush and Body Shop that got me into the whole beauty thing and whenever I get to try a new bath/shower product my day gets a little bit better. By this theory, a shower gel that literally promises happiness on the can, should be the ultimate product. But is it?
As you can see, the 'bottle' isn't your conventional shower gel bottle but rather something that reminds me of shaving foam. Turns out, that design was relevant for reasons, I'll explain later.
For those of you who haven't heard of Rituals, they are a cosmetics company who specialise in providing collections based on how you want to feel. Their products are designed to ensure that you take some time out of your busy day to enjoy life and feel wonderful. Their Happy Budda gel is the newest of their shower foams and is designed to bring some joy to your life.
Looking at the 'bottle', this is clear to see, it is bright orange. A homage to it's feature ingredient sweet oranges. In addition to the orange, thee is also Cedar to help with the skin. Because of this, Happy Budda doesn't smell like your traditional orange shower gel, instead it reminds me of one of the old shower jellies from Lush (I will let you know which one, when I'm back in Leicester and have a chance to 'jog my memory').
However, you'll notice that Rituals call their shower gels, shower foams. There's a really good reason for this, and one I discovered, when I attempted to get some on my hand for a picture. The shower gel, magically turns into the foam, after 5-10 seconds. It was a really fun surprise and it really made me smile, when I tested it in the water last night.
The scent is also quite long lasting for a shower gel. I know a lot of shower gels, have a scent that goes as soon as you step of the shower but Happy Budda isn't the case here. After my bath, I spent an hour in the garden with my parents, had my 2 small dogs wanting cuddles and the neighbours using their log burner and I can still smell the shower gel on my skin 2 hours later. Consider me, very impressed.
Overall I found the product very fun to use, however I am slightly unsure whether I would pay £8.50 for it since the bottle was slightly smaller (on the website it says it's officially 200ml) than other traditional shower gels. In addition, traveling with it would be slightly more difficult due to the can style bottle, however if you are planning to stay in the UK then you should be fine.
If you are willing to either pay a little bit more for your shower gel or test your luck on your next Birchbox then you should try this. The gel to foam is a really fun novelty and the scent is also lovely.
Final score: 8/10.
Folks, fancy getting your own Birchbox? Of course you do. You'd be mad not to. Simply click this link and you'll get £5 off your first box. That means you can get all the delights that I'm reviewing for a mere £7.95 (saving 55p off your bottle of Happy Budda) with postage. Don't forget that if you get the August box, you'll also get the CLE Melting Lip Powder that I reviewed in yesterday's entry and some of the products in the next 3 reviews. Think of all those treats. So go on, treat yourself. You know you want to.
