An idiot's guide: Subscription boxes.

Welcome to our newest segment. An idiot's guide is a segment due to explaining something to do with either fashion, beauty or both. Today's entry is going to talk about something that I have discussed a lot previously, subscription boxes.

What is a subscription box?

A subscription box is a service where certain products are sent to your home at a set period in time. This may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the company. This allows you the chance to try new products from the comfort of your own home.

Why should I use them?

As I mention in my article about enjoying make up for less, subscription boxes can allow you to try more expensive brands for a much cheaper price. In addition, you know that you will have a variety of treats coming to your door on a regular basis.

Which boxes are best for me?

If you like high end beauty brands at low cost prices:

Birchbox costs £12.95 and is delivered monthly (£7.95 for your first box). Previous brands include Benefit, Sand & Sky, Rituals and CLE. If you like any of the products in the box, you can buy them from the Birchbox Store with 10% discount (this goes up to 15% after your 6th box).

If you're a bookworm who needs some self care:

Receiving rave reviews from the Independent, Date Night with a Book is a fantastic book subscription service for people on a budget. What does books have to do with this blog, I hear you cry. Well, firstly, I do have an undergraduate degree in English and Creative Writing. Secondly, one of the boxes, they offer is a pamper date night. This is £19.50 a month and includes a wrapped book based on your favourite sub-genre, a pretty book mark, a coaster for your mug, one mug of hot chocolate, one mug of detox tea, a face mask, moisturiser and nail polish.

The great thing about this company, is the variety of options. Fancy having a monthly movie night complete with treats? There's a box for that for only £14.95 a month. Do you want to spend some time with your doggo? There's a box for that for £13.95. Have a gander at the website if you don't believe me.

If you like stuff to be cute as hell:

Kawaii Box is the home is everything cute and Japanese combined into one monthly subscription box. It costs £15.25 a month after US conversion ($19.90), however this can work out cheaper if you get the 6 month or 12 month plan.

Previous boxes have included stationary, keychains, bags, hair products, sweets and plushies. It has previously been featured on NBC's Today show in America and was given rave reviews. I'm not going to lie, I'm very tempted to treat myself to a subscription. I mean look at it, it's adorable!

So there you have it, as basic guide to subscription boxes complete with my recommendations. Do you have a subscription box that you LOVE? Have you tried any of the subscriptions, I recommended? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time, remember you are beautiful,

Kelly.
